Donald A. Norman
Business Week labeled Dr. Donald Norman as a “cantankerous visionary” – cantankerous in his quest for excellence. Don Norman calls himself a “user advocate.” Dr. Norman brings a unique mix of the social sciences and engineering to bear on everyday products: he is a strong advocate of human-centered design and simplicity. Don earned his label as Vice President of the Advanced Technology Group at Apple Computer and an executive at Hewlett Packard. He is Professor Emeritus at the University of California, San Diego where he was founding chair of the Department of Cognitive Science and chair of the Department of Psychology. He is a trustee of the Institute of Design in Chicago, IL. Dr. Norman is cofounder of the Nielsen Norman Group, an executive consulting firm that helps companies produce human-centered products and services. He serves as advisor and board member to numerous companies. Upside Magazine named him to their “Elite 100” list for 1999. Norman is also President of the Learning Systems division of Unext, a leader in online education. Dr. Norman has published extensively in journals and books, and is the author or co-author of thirteen books, with translations into twelve languages.
